I. Purpose and Vision  活动宗旨:

The 2026 Southern California Chinese Poetry & Speech Competition is held in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month.

This event provides students with a formal public platform to demonstrate excellence in spoken Mandarin through poetry recitation, storytelling, and speech presentation.

The competition recognizes clear expression of ideas, accurate pronunciation and tonal accuracy, effective organization and language use, cultural understanding, and confident stage presence.
比赛重点评估学生的思想表达、发音与声调准确度、语言组织能力、文化理解以及舞台表现力。

Students are encouraged to challenge themselves, refine their Mandarin language skills, and grow in confidence as public speakers.
我们鼓励学生勇于挑战自我,不断提升中文表达能力,并增强公众表达的自信。

Preliminary rounds for Grades 4–5, Grades 6–8 (Immersion & Heritage), and Grades 9–12 (Heritage & World Language). These rounds may take place simultaneously in multiple classrooms.
四至五年级、六至八年级(沉浸式组与传承语组)以及九至十二年级(传承语组与外语学习组)将进行演讲初赛。初赛可能在多个教室同时进行。

Afternoon Session

Finalists from each speech division will present on the main stage. After each speech in the final round, judges may ask two follow-up questions to assess the contestant’s ability to respond spontaneously in Mandarin. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding achievement in each division.
各组别初赛晋级选手将在主舞台进行决赛展示。在演讲决赛中,评委将在每位选手演讲结束后提出两道即兴问题,以评估选手用中文进行即时表达与交流的能力。活动最后将举行颁奖典礼,表彰各组优秀选手。

Q&A Session:
For speech divisions, the Q&A session applies to the final round only. After each speech, judges may ask two spontaneous questions to evaluate the student’s ability to respond and communicate in Mandarin. Preliminary rounds do not include a Q&A session.
演讲比赛仅在决赛阶段设有问答环节。每位选手演讲结束后,评委可能提出两道即兴问题,以评估学生用中文进行即时表达与交流的能力。初赛阶段不设问答环节。

 

Immersion Track 沉浸式组:
Students are enrolled in a Mandarin immersion or dual-language immersion program in which Mandarin is used regularly for academic instruction.
参加中文沉浸式或双语沉浸式项目的学生,在学校中有部分学科使用中文进行教学。

 

Heritage Track 传承语组:
Students who regularly use Chinese at home or have received an education in Chinese-speaking environments.
在家庭中经常使用中文,或曾在中文环境中接受教育的学生。

World Language Track 外语学习组:
Students who study Chinese primarily as a world language through school-based programs.
主要通过学校外语课程学习中文的学生。

IV. General Competition Rules 比赛规则:

1. Each participant may register for only one event.
每位参赛者只能报名参加一个比赛项目。


2. Participants may choose to compete in an older age group, but may not register for a younger group.
参赛者可以选择报名高于自己年级的组别,但不得报名低于自己年级的组别。


3. Participants should not state their name, school, teacher, or grade level during their performance. Contestants will be identified by number only.
表演过程中,参赛者不得报出自己的姓名、学校、老师或年级。所有参赛者将以编号形式参加比赛。


4. The organizing committee will determine the competition order.
比赛顺序由比赛组委会统一安排。


5. All performances must remain within the designated time limits. Judges may deduct points if the performance exceeds the time limit.
所有参赛表演必须在规定时间内完成。如超过时间限制,评委可能酌情扣分。


6. All poetry participants must recite two poems: one required poem and one poem chosen from the provided options. Poems do not have to be memorized in full, but participants should recite them fluently and expressively. Participants may hold a folder with the poems during their performance.
所有诗歌朗诵参赛者需朗诵两首诗:一首必选诗,一首从指定选项中选择。诗歌不强制要求完全背诵,但参赛者应能够流畅并富有表现力地朗诵。参赛者可以使用资料夹(folder)放置诗稿。


7. PreK–Grade 1 poetry participants may use appropriate hand gestures during their performance. Grades 2–5 poetry participants should hold a folder with both hands and should not use hand gestures.
PreK至一年级诗歌朗诵参赛者可以使用适当的手势辅助表达。二至五年级诗歌朗诵参赛者需双手持资料夹,不使用手势。


8. For the Classics Recitation event, memorization is recommended. Participants may refer to notes if needed, but this may affect the fluency score. For the Storytelling event, students may adapt their stories from various sources and must submit them to the organizer at least 1 week before the competition.
经典诵读项目建议参赛者熟记选段。如需使用稿件,可能影响流畅度评分。故事讲述项目可参考不同资料进行改编,并需在比赛前一周提交故事稿。


9. For the Speech event, speeches should be written primarily by the student, though adults may assist with editing.
演讲比赛的演讲稿应主要由学生本人完成,成人可以提供适当的修改和语言建议。


10. All performances may be recorded for judging review and educational purposes. In the case of a tie, pronunciation scores will be used as the first tie-breaker. Judges’ decisions are final, and the organizing committee reserves the right to disqualify any performance that violates the competition rules.
所有参赛表演可能被录制,用于评分复核或教育用途。如出现同分情况,将首先比较发音评分。评委的决定为最终结果,组委会保留对违反比赛规则的参赛表演进行取消资格处理的权利。
